Changing Your Beneficiaries

One of the most important things you can do after a divorce is to change your beneficiaries. Even if you re-marry, your former spouse will remain your beneficiary until you make the change.

In one case, an individual remarried but did not change his beneficiary. Even though he had a new wife, his former spouse received approximately 95 percent of his estate.

After divorce, most people begin thinking about marriage and long-term relationships differently. You may want to consider a pre-nuptial agreement or a cohabitation agreement.
